The Accordion In Panama
The Accordion In Panama
The accordion music scene hovered in Panama since before the birth of the Republic to the days of the Second World War. But during that time, marjoram and violins maintained their dominance in the interpretation of typical Panamanian music.
Until shortly before 1950 in our country, the popular folk music with violins and ran marjoram (or mejoranera), a folk instrument related to the guitar strings. But this time, an innovative musician from Macaracas changed this pattern. That musician was Rogelio "Gelo" Córdoba, performer and composer who introduced the accordion in the performance of traditional pieces to become the leading instrument in traditional music.
The sociologist argues that Chaffinch Milciades the late 1940's and early de1950, accordion jumps into the ring in the arms of Roger "Gelo" Córdoba, with the selection "La Loma Azul". Gelo Cordoba, who played first the violin, was born at the bus stop, village near the Mogollon Macaracas, province of Los Santos, on March 15, 1916, and died in Panama City, on February 15, 1959. It marks a milestone in our music composition "The Mogollon" created by Sacramento cumbia Córdoba closed more than half a century and popularized by his nephew "Gelo" Córdoba.
Among the early days of the accordion and among the pioneers of accordion popular folk music (some were not accordionists), we must also mention Ceberito Batista, Claudio Castillo, Victorino "Nano" Córdoba, Córdoba Artemio, Maximum Escudero, Francisco " Purio Chico "Ramirez and the famous José Vergara.
By the late 60's and during the 70's there was already a strong generation of great performers of the accordion, among which may be mentioned by Alberto Solis, Ruben Dario Solis, Adoni Sandoval, Pitino Tello, Roberto "Papi" Brandao, Uruguay Nelson Domingo Diaz, Roberto "Fito" Espino, Herminio Guerra, Ruben Dario Martinez, Aristides Burgos, Dagoberto "Yin" Carrizo, Isidro "Chilo" Pitty, Chalino Nieto, Leo Mendieta, Didymus Ureña, Teresa Jaén (Terezin) and Daniel Dorindo Cardenas Gutierrez. Within all this group, today we can still highlight Dorindo Cardenas, the "Black Macano Post" or "The greatest accordionists Panamanians," which for four decades has remained in first place as an exponent of the most traditional and the real thing in the typical music.
At that time and during the following years of glory accordion arise many other great accordionists who have expanded the boundaries of our music, among them we should mention the following: Ceferino Nieto, better known by his audience as "The Titan of The Americas "or" Master Keys "Alfredo Escudero, known as" The Mountaineer "or" Master, Master and Lord de la Cumbia "Victorio Vergara Batista, the most famous, beloved and missed" Tigre de La Candelaria "The Scorpion Paritilla, Osvaldo Ayala, the Mechiblanco San Jose Vergara Ulpian, and Samy Sandoval.
It is unwise to consider the accordion and accordion displaced the violin violinists were the same, looking for more sound, who moved his violin for the accordion. This occurs, for example, with notable performers such as Gelo Cordoba Ceberito Batista, Cardenas Dorindo , Ceferino Nieto and Alfredo Escudero.
Today, the accordion is the instrument par excellence in the execution of the popular folk music of Panama. The ensembles led by accordion music more widely interpreted at the national level festivities and events from all provinces, both in cities and in the villages. The popularity of traditional music has been growing as the number of composers and national teams. In recent years, have added to this field a host of innovative artists who have merged or attempted to merge the different types of music , instruments and dance rhythms. For example, Samy and Sandra Sandoval has caused quite a stir due mainly to the mix of modern beats and its modern choreography.
It should be noted that the fame of the typical music transcends the national boundary: for time not only is heard and interpreted in the international arena, but has also been the subject of imitation, and adaptation inspired by artists other famous groups and countries.

Our popular accordion folk music includes a variety of types or genres of music pieces. The genus most widespread, popular and sticky of all is the cumbia, which in our current music has many variations. Also be interpreted, for example, the joint, the drummer, the ride, pasebol the atravesa'o or cumbia crossed, the corrido, danzón, danzon, cumbia, bolero, cumbia, cumbia loose, and so on. Many of these names come from the folk and traditional music but popular dance or folk pindin has strong winds, we must differentiate folk music as such: the latter, as clarified Dora Perez de Zárate, is an anonymous author, occurs spontaneously in the middle and is interpreted or presented by folk ensembles called projection or folk groups.
