Architects plan to build vertical housing

Architects plan to build vertical housing

The latest edition of Solar Park South prizes are delivered in the Italian region of Calabria as winners have had a team of architects led by Philippe Rizzotti French and Samuel Nageotte. The winning project is to build vertical housing building on existing unused viaducts in the area. These houses would also be self-sufficient in energy.

The morphology of the many viaducts Calabria area, especially its pillars, inspired the architects to develop the concept of vertical housing. These bridges are designed to withstand heavy traffic, so the charge level is above normal. They are also very well connected as they cross the roads are old main roads. The materials to be used is reduced to the maximum and get to minimize the visual impact.

The idea would be to place housing building on the pillars of the viaduct. At the top shopping areas would be located, the facilities and recreational areas and services. It also would take advantage of the characteristics of the area as, for example, geothermal potential to be used both to generate electricity to produce hot water. The anaerobic digestion of organic waste would generate the necessary gas for domestic use while a tank placed in the tunnels would use the rainwater that would also be used for domestic consumption.

The choice of the Calabria area to develop this project is not casual. Was chosen because it is one of the regions with a more stable climate, as evidenced by the abundance of bergamot, a plant that needs a constant temperature and humidity to grow. In addition to its ideal climate, proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea makes the area one of the most attractive for so-called "snow birds", retired from cold northern countries of Europe to seek more agreeable climates in which to spend their retirement years . They would be the ideal population nests on bridges Calabrian.
