According to the ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine), a percentage of people within the reproductive age are infertile, one third of this percentage are women, a third are men, and 15% were both parents.

Basically, a couple is considered infertile if they are unable to conceive within 6 months of having unprotected sex (or 12 months if the woman is over 35 years), according to the INCI (International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination ).

There are many reasons why this happens. These factors can affect both men and women, or both.

Causes of male infertility

There are many factors that can lead to male infertility. The most common is the problem with sperm production.

An infertile man may be causing low sperm due to illness or medical conditions such as endocrine problems, diabetes, Kallmann syndrome, hypogonadism, hyperprolactinemia, problems related to drugs or alcohol to impair the production of hormones necessary for sperm production.

Some men may have problems with their reproductive organs. These problems include Klinefelter syndrome, testicular trauma, mumps, idiopathic problems, seminoma, varicocele, hydrocele, cryptorchidism, among others.

These problems directly affect the testes, which are responsible for sperm production.

Another factor that may tip the balance is to expose the scrotum at very high temperatures, whether showers, saunas, including tight-fitting underwear can be a cause of male infertility.

Some men can produce the required amount of sperm but have trouble having sex eject. They may have obstructed the vas (the tube that connects the testicles to the penis), infection, delayed ejaculation, erectile dysfunction and hypospadias. This prevents the transfer of sperm to the female reproductive system.
