World Produced Oranges

We begin by stating that the oranges are indeed the most widely produced citrus, representing 66 percent of total production, 51.5 million tonnes in 1994 - 5. Although this percentage has dropped from 75 percent a decade ago, production has increased in this period from 44.5 million tons.

From online oranges analyze the impact of world production of oranges in the world.

Additional 7 million tons of orange production is forecast to be more increased at an annual rate of 2 percent in the period before 2005, when the orange production in the world are expected to exceed 62.5 million tons.

In recent times, the orange crop in Brazil has exceeded 16.9 million tons, which is about 30 percent of world production, compared to one-third a decade ago, but when combined with the 10.5 million tons of U.S. production year, you can see that these oranges from the two main producing countries account for nearly half the world's orange production.

In the Mediterranean, Italy and Spain have a significant production of orange with 1.8 million and 2.8 million tonnes, respectively. The varieties grown for both industries are mainly for the consumption of fresh fruit. However, while Spain has developed navel oranges and other popular varieties, cultivation of Italy are made largely of inferior varieties, where there is a low demand of everyday life outside of Italy. Consequently, much of the production of oranges from Italy has to be processed or sold in the European Union or destroyed, less than 7 percent or 125,000 tons are exported fresh. Spain for its part continues to enjoy a thriving export trade in orange varieties of high quality for a total of over 1.3 million tons per year.

In China orange harvest has been relatively small, as the mandarins have been a priority and preferred in production, but with policy changes in the last two decades, the production of oranges has increased from an estimated 0.35 1975-1630000 million tonnes tonnes in 1995 (2.77 million tonnes in 1997) and 4.3 million as largest crop in 2005. Most of the orange crop in China will continue to be sold fresh for local consumption.

Most other major crop-producing countries such as Mexico Orange, Egypt, Iran, India and Pakistan is defined by fresh selling in the domestic market.
